What is a Pap smear?

A Pap smear is an essential test to screen for cervical cancer, performed by opening your vagina with a speculum and swabbing your cervix to collect cells. Your sample is sent to the lab to check for abnormalities. The procedure is quick and well-tolerated, allowing nurse practitioners to detect cervical cancer before symptoms appear.
